Decorating With Modern Wall Sconces

Decorating with modern wall sconces is easier than you think! You just need to understand how best to use the light given off by modern wall sconces, and how it plays into the overall look and ambiance of your room.

Wall sconces have been used for centuries to light up dark, dingy castle walls, and of course back then they were used with candles. However, modern wall sconces are used primarily for decoration, not so much for function or to provide a main light source. While you can still get modern wall sconces that use candles (and they are very beautiful, and romantic), nowadays they are electric, battery powered, or use LED lights to create soft, atmospheric lighting in bedrooms, entryways, hallways, or really anywhere you choose to use them. Modern wall sconces can even be used outdoors to cast a soft, inviting glow over our patio or deck.

Modern wall sconces are not only decorative, they are practical.

They make good use of all that vertical wall space, and turn it from blah to beautiful with the flick of a switch.

The best way to decorate with modern wall sconces is to think of them not only as a light source, but as wall art. When using modern wall sconces, think about using them in groupings, either with several sconces or along with other decorative items. Modern wall sconces can even end up being the focal point of your room! This is perfect in those rooms you’re not sure what to do with, such as entryways.

Always use modern wall sconces in pairs, or in groups… never just use one on its own. Use them to line a hallway, or place three in a row on the wall facing your front door. If you have wall art you want to showcase, flank the piece with a pair of modern wall sconces, one on each side. The gentle light will illuminate the wall art and draw attention to it, while also acting as a point of visual interest in the entire room.

In the bedroom, modern wall sconces serve another purpose.

– to add a splash of romance! Candle sconces or sconces with bulbs that are soft or can be dimmed create a gorgeous, soft atmosphere. Place a pair of modern wall sconces on either side of your headboard for a soft glow good for reading by, watching TV by, or better yet, for cuddling by!
If you don’t have a headboard, you can use modern wall sconces to define and demarcate your bed area, and act as a ‘headboard of light’. This can be as simple or as dramatic as you like.
